My last blog post was on the first day of summer, June 21st, and, as I write this, autumn is a mere 38 days away. It is amazing how, in the blink of an eye, one's life can drastically change. From June 22nd until July 17th, I once again spent my time here at Croton's RV Park. As some of you may know, on July 6th, my 96-year old mother misjudged a step and took a fall fracturing both her left hip and shoulder. Poof! Just like that, the lives of my sister, Judy, and I changed.
Sparing you the details, she was 5 days in the hospital with a successful hip plate procedure and the rest of the time to date at a rehab facility in Lake Mohegan. With details worthy of another blog in and of itself left to your imagination, fast forward the news that she's ready for discharge sometime this week with OT and PT continuing as necessary at home. Superior care provided by Judy will most certainly be better than what she received. Today, my mother couldn't wait for my daily visit this evening to call and tell me that without pressing the call button for assistance, 1) she got up three time during the night to use the nearby commode, 2) this morning walked to the bathroom, 3) dressed herself with clothes laid out the night before, and 4) was able to not only put on her sneakers but tie them as well. Great news made possible by the response time or lack of it on the part of the CNAs that causes one to "shift for themselves."
So here I am at site #37 once again. There's nothing new to tell you about the experience. Quiet, picturesque, serene, shaded and (almost) relaxing. It'll be a long commute to visit the rehab center but hopefully, not for much longer. I've had to cancel my 10 day trip to visit friends in South Carolina. Picture the scene that Jane wrote me after I told her I had to cancel the trip: "Sorry you will miss your Southern Trip. We were looking forward to showing you how we really live down here in the South.... "Summertime and the livin' is easy". Not a song but for real!! We planned to bring you up to our lake house, put you in a rocker on our porch, watch the boats go down the lake and sip Mint Juleps! Oh the life!!! The offer is still open when you can come down. Please put us on your list for next summer."
I am sticking to my Maine trip to Belfast that is already in place and reserved. It will be at Moorings Oceanfront RV Resort and a visit with my cousins, John and Barbara. Check out the campground by clicking here.
P.S. before leaving, be sure to check out my Visitors Blog for new additions.
