Croton RV - 05-08-15 to 05-22-2015 - Update 2

My two weeks here at Croton's RV park came to a close yesterday, Friday, 5/20th.  The problem of having Winnie in a two day storage limbo was nicely and conveniently solved. Normally, I'd have to leave the campground, empty perishables, bring them home only to return Monday morning, re-stock and take off to

Trish & Craig

my next adventure at Hampton Beach State Park in New Hampshire.  As it turned out, friends Craig & Trish, full timers here at the park, were leaving Thursday after work for Lake George and their annual family get-together. They suggested I move my RV into their site #50 for the weekend.  I will have left Monday morning by the time they return.  Thank you Trish & Craig.

Since my last post, the hot water check valve was repaired.  I drove the 70 miles up to Kingston to meet Wayne of Wayne's RV Repairs, who drove 30 miles over from Phoenicia, NY.  The plastic valve replacing the 2nd brass valve on the left cost me $8.99. You may have read that I had the same problem while in Myrtle Beach, SC in late February.  Then there was the $75.00 service call and the $75.00 installation fee.  He gave me a second valve should I need it and after watching him change the part, I knew it would be a cinch if there were a next time. Years of being a homeowner assured me of that.  Our conclusion was that brass, being a better conductor of heat than plastic, warped the (plastic) plunger mechanism inside the valve that prevented it from functioning properly.  The plastic valve should alleviate that problem.  My request for reimbursement of the warranty work has been sent into Winnebago.

In other developments this past week, friend Mark and Marist baseball went down in defeat against Quinnipiac, then to Canisius and are out of the MAAC Championships.  Mark, however, in his own right both as batter and catcher is an outstanding athlete who will be graduating next week.

Friends Oscar and Mary Ellen paid a visit and were treated to his belated (May 17th) birthday dinner: Got out my vintage Coleman grill and had London broil marinated in a teriyaki ginger sauce, baked potatoes, grilled onions, asparagus, and zucchini.  Have no photos of the baked potatoes, zucchini, and folks present.  Vicki joined us with her fractured tibia gotten while walking her 10,000 steps.  Can you believe that? I've always maintained, walking is hazardous to your health.

Today, sister Judith and daughter, Marybeth, will join me for a short time for light snacks and coffee.

I've rearranged my "wall of fame" inside Winnie.  I've updated and will post "My Visitors" in awhile.  Be sure to scroll to the end to view the additions.

Next blog will be from

  1. Is the blank area in your post for a photoshop of O and Maryellen with the image of Winnie in the background? I can't believe you forgot to get that photo op.

In other news, the London broil, baked potato, asparagus, onion and zucchini were outstanding. The best meal I've had in awile. Thanks for your hospitality.
