2016 Summer Adventure - The Beginning

April 28, 2016

Well, well, well, a blink of an eye and here it is quickly approaching May and the beginning of a new RV season.  My April 5th hip replacement procedure is behind me (literally), 3 weeks of in-home physical therapy completed, walking now with neither walker nor cane prepares me for driving by the end of this week. I will be driving to the hospital, a mile away, for 4 weeks of outpatient physical therapy, twice a week. If all goes well, I will finish on Thursday, 5/26th at which time I'll drive Winnie down from storage at Cross River, NY to Croton Point's RV park.....my "other home." All activity, of course, will be done with "hip replacement precautions" and performed slowly and with extra care. Thanks to the many readers who have checked in now and then to ask of my progress. I risk sounding redundant for those with whom I've not been in touch. I am quite pleased...and proud...of my progress through the recuperative period. Yes, lots of inconveniences that you don't want to know about, but the biggest was fighting off "cabin fever" with not being able to drive.  All that changes this coming weekend.

With another blink of the eye, the itch is getting closer and closer to being scratched. With 3 days, 21 hours, and 51 minutes from this writing, I'm now just 2 PT sessions away from completing doctor's recommendation. The aches, stiffness, and pain from sitting too long are still with me and I'm concerned that they are.  I'm beginning to wonder if it's the PT that, on the one hand, is strengthening weakened muscles while on the other, it's resulting in the discomfort I'm experiencing...shall we call it, "body balk?"  Alas, there's the "age" thing that I'll always refuse to factor.  Reality, my friend, reality; it's only been 46 days since the operation....perhaps I'm impatient?  Me? Impatient? Nahhhhh.  Problem is, the end of the month of May marks yet another passing birth year and my ever present motto, "it is what it is" begins to glow brighter and brighter into what will probably become a strobe-like blinding reminder of where I am in my life.  Ha ha!!!

On the brighter, positive side, today marks a momentous occasion in my very full and fortunate life:

2016 University of Rhode Island Graduate
This intelligent, beautiful 22-year old granddaughter, Sara, graduated today and her "Poppa" couldn't be more proud. Congratulations, Sara and welcome to the real world. May continued success come to you as you enter grad school and realize your dream career in the Environmental Sciences.

To conclude, I've begun fleshing in my summer itinerary. The are a lot of gaps that I hope to fill in as the summer wears on and my "condition" improves. This incidentally is one of the enjoyments for those RVers who like things "orderly" and "organized:" Planning and reserving.  I'll provide updates in future blogs. My first stop? Good ol' Croton Point RV Park (CPP) just 10 miles away. Thursday, May 26th through Monday, June 13th. For those of my readers who live locally, I'm hoping to hear from you asking for a good time to make the trip and visit for a relaxing afternoon or evening of good food, good wine, and good conversation....my favorite pastime .

  1. Nice looking and sounding itinerary. Glad you're not an impatient person, otherwise you would surely be "chomping at the bit to get out out of the stall." Lol.

As far as birthdays go, we can hate them all we want for reminding us of the tic tic of the ol' clock, but it sure as hell beats the alternative! Carpe diem, my friend. Carpe diem.

  2. Aloha...and what - no trans-Pacific crossing to Honolulu this go-around ? I'll get to meet Winnie one of these days ! Happy trails to you !
