Greetings and welcome back for another season of travel with Winnie & Me. My winter travels beginning January 16, 2016 marks the second year I've had the good fortune to 'get away' from the cold and nasty weather (neither of which really bother me) to discover the beautiful America that's out there off the beaten track. I'll also have the pleasure of seeing retired friends who have moved from my area as well as relatives in Florida; 6 couples in all. I'm really looking forward to it. My 2016 winter itinerary lasting 55 days can be viewed by clicking on the above tab labeled "Winter 2016". As I begin this blog there are 6 days left before taking off for Rock Hall, MD, my first overnight stop which is a four hour drive from Cross River, NY. This is where Winnie is winterized and stored.
Most of the shopping is done and packed (in my apartment), laundry is done and the eternal question of what to pack is almost answered. At some point this week a preliminary trip out to load everything into the RV will take place. The propane frig will be started and cooled to await the arrival of the many perishables I think I'll need. The rule of thumb, purchasing goods for three days at a time, cannot be followed too closely in my case because once I'm set up at a campsite, I do not have a towed vehicle that will allow me to run to the store. That task must be done on the way from one location to another. It is safe to say that along my planned route there will be enough shops, malls, grocery stores, etc, to prevent me from starving to death.
As with previous blogs, I'll continue to provide a campsite map and some indication of where I'm located. The campground will also be italicized to indicate its link to the campground's website. There, the reader will be provided with details.
Once again my stay at these "off season" campgrounds are for an evening or two. This is much too short a time to appreciate the surrounding environment, people, sites or even the amenities that all campsites provide. For me, then, the focus, during the winter months, becomes the beautiful photography that I'm always eager to capture that provide me with so many wonderful memories.
And speaking of memories, be sure to click on the tab above labeled, "Visitors." Here's where my memories come to life. Each person that has stopped by to visit Winnie & Me are special to me; their relationship, their friendship, and their stories are all different and allow me to go back in time to that location and the occasion that brought us there. Each photo is taped to an inside wall in the RV. I'm so glad I began that tradition. If you are not already on my "Wall of Fame," stop by and visit. So far my summer camping once again includes two weeks at the Croton RV Park from May 26th through June 10th. Would love to have you visit.
Till next time, stay well, safe travels and feel free to comment below.

After reading your entry (Happy New Year, btw), I have a couple of ideas for your future planning. I've discovered "canned potatoes." I know they've been around for years, but I never used them before and I've found many different ways to use them, like for potatoes and eggs, in a stew, in a hearty soup, sliced, seasoned and broiled, etc. My discovery of 2015. The other suggestion I have is, instead of staying at campgrounds for one-night stands, you should really look into staying at one of the businesses in the area that allow overnight RV parking. Utilizing parking losts at Walmart, Cabella and Bass Pro Shops saves money and time. You only need to sleep in a save location - and if it's a Walmart, you get to stock up, if necessary.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see the blogs will begin again. As always, safe travels, my friend.
