My time here at Hunting Island State Park has flown by. I leave for Port Orange, FL, Monday. With one day left, I should look back and reflect. The big news for me, of course, is that, for the second year in a row, I've escaped the north just a week ahead of a major snowstorm; both listed as blizzards. I shudder to think what it would be like getting stranded on an Interstate under the current conditions. 10" to 14" or more are being recorded back home. Everyone who has made contact with me are all hunkered down and thank goodness it all falls on a weekend.
The highlight of my week was visiting friends, Roger & Wendy in Bluffton, SC. Wednesday's lunch at Paninis On The Waterfront in Beaufort was just perfect; the day was the best one of the week with temps in the 50's. I had the Greek Shrimp Panini: wild caught shrimp, feta cheese, pesto, and fire roasted tomatoes. Crispy fries and a dark beer hit the spot. It was lite fare as that evening at their home, Wendy's rigatoni bolognaise took center stage. This was accompanied by a beet salad garnished with walnuts, pear, feta cheese and toasted garlic bread. Tiramisu for dessert with coffee put the finishing touches on a great day. Joining us for dinner were the Hardees', Henry and Margie. Still kicking myself for neglecting to take pictures.![]() |
Last year my visit was to Hilton Head Island, a much more convenient location for visiting.

If you paid attention to the road ahead,
you'd miss this treasure on the side.

Because of weather that was less than perfect, I spent most of my time "indoors." Temperatures ranged from the low 50's during the day to mid 30's at night. My space heater kept things at a cozy 72 throughout the stay. Located no more than 50' from the beach, it was interesting to see the vast difference between high and low tide, this weekend emphasized by the full moon tonight (the Wolf Moon). Some photos.
The very distant low tide mark was so reminiscent of Daytona Beach.
Winnie from the beach. Campground quite full; surprising for this time of the year.
Magnificent and awe-inspiring no matter how many times you are fortunate enough to witness it.
That anticipatory moment just before sunrise. Tuesday morning it was at 7:22am

Wouldn't you love to see how this trailer is laid out inside.

That storm could catch you yet. Looks like it's heading south. Front end just touching North Carolina. M.
ReplyDeleteIt was great to see you, Charlie! Enjoy the rest of your Southern Excursion - it's got to get warmer soon, right? Take care.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe how close your site is to the ocean. It's especially evident in the high tide photo. Glad you got to visit with Wendy and Roger. Sounds like you were offered the royal treatment. Save room for sushi.
