Well, it's a good time to sit back and relax after a 5+ hour trip from Cabin Creek Campground, my third overnight in North Carolina, with a glass of Chardonnay and look back on my travels thus far. 1,050 miles primarily traveling on Routes 13 & 17. Ah, Route 17 South; that in itself would make for a lengthy blog entry...a fascinating yet depressing one at that.
My first stop was at Bay Shore Campground in Rock Hall, MD, next was Holiday Trav-L-Park in Virginia Beach, then Cabin Creek. They were all nice campgrounds, the folks were friendly and attentive but you have to remember that the campgrounds were empty. It's off season and there was just no one around. I was alone. Even the "seasonal" RVs with other vehicles in front of them showed no signs of life. Not a soul. Temperatures at night went as low as 15. My heated hose was not enough to prevent the freeze at the water spigot in NC. Trickling water at the faucet still remains your best not to have an overnight freeze. So, very little time was spent writing about my "one night stands."
So here in South Carolina I will take it easy. The temperature as I write this is 40 degrees and will go down to 34. Winnie hit 10,000 mile mark just as I pulled into my first 5-day layover here in Hunting Island State Park, SC. Tomorrow fellow retired colleagues from Hen Hud, Roger and Wendy, will come by to pick me up and, after a light lunch in town, I'll spend the rest of the evening and overnight at their home in Bluffton, SC. They will bring me back Thursday morning.
It looks like my timing to "get outta Dodge" was perfect once again this year. This just in (LOL) "This 'Blizzard For The Ages' headed for the east coast is very much the real deal." It's going to be a biggie so, to my northern readers, stay safe, warm, and cozy. And thank you to all who have wished me well and safe travels.
